Tehran governor claims police not invovled in university attack
_______________________________________________________

The controversy surrounding the attack of Tehran University residents in June 2009 remains volatile as Morteza Tamaddon, Tehran Governor announced on March 8 that Security and Police forces did not enter the campus on this day.

Tehran Governor added that "if anyone claims otherwise, we are ready to follow up on the matter."

ILNA reports that Mr. Tamaddon said that on that day a small group of students had started a protest in the University residences and were dealt with by the "appropriate authorities."

Persian BBC television aired a film two weeks ago showing university students under attack by security forces as well as forces in plain clothes. In one part of the film, Azizollah Rajabzadeh, former chief of Tehran police is named as the person who ordered the operation. Azizollah Rajabzadeh recently retired from the service.

While head of National Security Commission of the parliament claimed the film aired by the BBC was a distorted "montage" and a Revolutionary Guards commander claimed Basij was not involved in the University residence episode, Iranian MP, Ali Abbaspour announced in July of 2009 that as a member of the fact-finding committee of the parliament, he was informed that security forces entered Tehran University campus on the said night holding a warrant.

Tehran governor claimed the culprits in the attack of the university residence have already been reported to security organizations.

The fact-finding committee of the parliament has issued no reports regarding the attack on the university.
